CARE in Heart Failure Available limited data suggest that the heart failure (HF) epidemic is advancing in India with the aging of the population. The HF epidemic in India is unique as it is largely propelled by the dual burden – persistence of rheumatic heart diseases, untreated congenital heart diseases and the emergence of new age disease coronary heart disease. Furthermore, HF occurs prematurely in India as compared to other high-income countries. It is detected at relatively later stages of the disease, managed less optimally, and often leads to premature deaths. CARE HF Overview The activities of the proposed CARE in HF at the Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology (SCTIMST) will be a model for future research initiatives in India.
